In solidarity with volunteers around the world and to celebrate International Volunteers’ Day, members of the Red Cross Youth (RCY) from various schools in Marikina City assembled to showcase a mass cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) demonstration at the Marikina Sports Center.
The CPR demonstration was made in the form of a human red cross, symbolizing hope and protection that is at the heart of our Movement.
A blood drive was simultaneously held with 500 donors pledged to give their blood.
“The PRC has over two million active volunteers nationwide and we are proud of every single one of them,” PRC Chairman and CEO Dick Gordon said.
“We hope to encourage more people, especially among the youth, to join us.”
“We hope to encourage more people, especially among the youth, to join us in helping the most vulnerable of the population, mobilize to protect communities, and embody the best of humanity,” Gordon added.
PRC Secretary General Dr. Gwen Pang, who herself began as a RCY leader, also shared her journey as a Red Cross volunteer, and her hope that many RCY and volunteers will use their training to continue serving humanity and become leaders in their communities.
“Today, we salute you. We want you to continue to be active in the Red Cross. I know each and every one of you has the willingness to save lives,” Pang said.
“With all you have learned and gained from your PRC mentors like new skills and experiences, we hope they lead you to greater heights.”
