The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently completed the construction of flood control structures along the upstream and downstream sections of the Irawan River, protecting communities and promoting local activities in Barangay Irawan, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
Based on the report of DPWH Regional Office IV-B Director Gerald Pacanan to Secretary Manuel Bonoan, the projects involve the construction of revetment walls on the upstream and downstream of the river measuring 93.17 meters and 95.79 meters, respectively.
It also covers the provision of drainage, slope protection, and extensive earthworks, optimizing the structure’s operational lifespan while safeguarding local communities, including residential properties, business establishments, and agricultural lands primarily affected by the adverse impact of flooding during the rainy season.
Implemented by DPWH – Palawan 3rd District Engineering Office, these newly completed protection structures aim at strengthening the river basin’s foundation, alleviating the threat of erosion and severe flooding, ensuring safety and security to the residents in the riverside community.

Funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the flood control projects upstream and downstream of the Irawan River were completed in the total amount of P34.74 Million.
