Surigao City observed its first-ever Arbor Day recently with a large-scale tree-planting activity organized by the Surigao City Environment & Natural Resources Office (ENRO).
Themed “Atong Kalasangan, Atong Kaugmaon” (“Our Forests, Our Future”), the event underscored the city’s growing commitment to environmental preservation and sustainability.
Over 2,450 trees were planted across two areas.

The initiative saw broad support, with 105 participants from the City Government and Navarro Memorial Central Elementary School in Cagniog.
At the same time, 151 representatives from National Line Agencies and Civil Society Organizations took part in the activity in Mat-i.
Mayor Paul Dumlao highlighted the importance of the event in contributing to the city’s environmental goals.
“Arbor Day is a reminder that each tree we plant today helps build a healthier, more resilient Surigao City for future generations,” Dumlao stressed.
