P12.5M DORM FOR BACOLOD ATHLETES BREAKS GROUND

Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez led the groundbreaking ceremony for the P12.5-million athletes’ dormitory.

The dorm is inside the campus of Romanito P. Maravilla Sr. National High School, the home of the track and field champions in Bacolod City.

The event featured a motorcade parade with athletes, starting at the Bacolod City Government Center going to the school.

The ceremony began with a welcome remark from Secondary School Principal Gladys Gerona, followed by a message from Benitez.

“We are very proud of our athletes because we did very well in every competition that has been held both locally and internationally.”

“This is also one way of taking care of our athletes who give recognition to our city,” he added.

“The athletes that bring honor to the city and bring home recognition when they compete abroad should be given decent living quarters,” Benitez stressed.

The project is estimated to cost P12.5 million pesos and is expected to be completed within 180 calendar days. 

Additionally, the improved athletes’ dormitory has quarters for boys and girls.

It can accommodate 32 student-athletes in the dorm that also has an office and dining area.

Attendees during the groundbreaking ceremony included Bacolod City Councilors Celia Flor, Pao Sy, Thaddy Sayson, Jason Villarosa, Em Ang, Cindy Rojas, Kalaw Puentevella and Simple Distrito; Engr. Jerry Tingson Brgy. Captain of Brgy. Estefania, the Benefactor Romanito Solinap, Romanito Maravilla National High School Teachers, City Engineer’s Office, department heads with Rev. Fr. Amat Sagar Tirkey, blessed the ceremony and the land where the new athletes’ dormitory will stand.

Romanito Maravilla Sr. National High School, known as the “Home of Champions,” is recognized for having the most successful athletes.
