PRC GIVES DOXYCYCLINE TO FLOODED COMMUNITIES

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) gave health tips and distributed doxycycline, a prophylactic agent to treat leptospirosis, to flooded communities in Mega Manila and Luzon.

Over 500 individuals have received the medicine.

Red Cross staff explained that without immediate and proper treatment, leptospirosis can damage the kidneys and cause liver failure.

Children and pregnant women, however, cannot take the medication.

“People have no choice but to wade in floodwaters, so we are concentrating on them.”

“Areas that are still inundated are our top priority. People have no choice but to wade in floodwaters, so we are concentrating on them. We are advising the public to remain alert and observant,” PRC Chairman and CEO Dick Gordon said.

Meanwhile, PRC food truck and RC143 volunteers went to Pinagbuhatan, Pasig and Barangay San Perfecto, San Juan City, to serve hot meals to more than 500 Typhoon Carina evacuees.

“Evacuation centers prevent families from accessing kitchen utensils and cooking spaces.”

Gordon emphasized the need to provide nutritious meals to displaced families, noting that evacuation centers prevent families from accessing kitchen utensils and cooking spaces.

He also thanked Chef Zhe Jacinto and PRC Rizal Chapter for supporting and facilitating the meal distribution.

Since Typhoon #CarinaPH struck, the PRC has distributed 21,000 hot meals to flood-stricken families in Mega Manila, Iloilo, Bataan, Tarlac, Batangas, Laguna, Zambales, Pampanga, and Olongapo.
