NOGRALES SEES LABOR ISSUES TACKLED IN 2024 SONA

House labor and employment committee chair Fidel Nograles on Friday said he expects Pres. Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to tackle blazing labor issues in his state of the nation address (SONA).

“Labor is a major sector and one that concerns every Filipino, so I expect that we will hear about his plans to address various issues on Monday,” the representative of Rizal’s 4th District said.

This, as the Philippines ranked 59th among 60 countries analyzed in the Global Life-Work Balance Index report of global human resource services firm Remote.

According to the report, the country’s capital, Manila, scored 27.46 out of 100 in work-life balance, just above bottom-ranked Nigeria’s capital Abuja, which earned a score of 16.15.

The company evaluated average working hours per week, minimum wages, annual leave policies, sick pay, maternity leaves, healthcare and other factors in 60 countries with the highest gross domestic product.

The Philippines ranked 59th among 60 countries analyzed in the Global Life-Work Balance Index report of global human resource services firm Remote.

The study aims to represent how the “businesses of each country look after the lives of their employees and put life before work.”

Nograles expressed “grave concern” at the country’s ranking, however, he believes that the government is “working doubly hard” to make working conditions better.

“Kaya’t inaabangan natin ang SONA nang malaman natin ang landas ng balak tahakin ng administrasyon para sa mas maayos na kalagayan para sa mga manggagawa,” the lawmaker said.

“Makakaasa naman ang pangulo na tayo sa Kongreso ay patuloy na makikipagtulungan para mapatotoo ang nagiisang adhikain natin para sa manggagawang Pilipino,” he added.
