The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has constructed a 3.95-kilometer section of an ongoing access road that will provide a fast, convenient, affordable, and scenic access to the tourist destinations in the southern part of Sorsogon Province.
In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, DPWH Regional Office 5 Director Virgilio Eduarte cited the recent completion of two road projects in the town of Bulan that form part of a tourism road project dubbed Bulan-Matnog-Sta. Magdalena-Bulusan Road.
The DPWH Sorsogon 2nd District Engineering Office implemented the construction of the 1.8-kilometer road section, and another 2.15-kilometer road section from Barangay Butag to Barangay Utayi, traversing farm lands and coastal area.
“Both projects have two lanes, road shoulder components, streetlights, and thermoplastic pavement markings, as well as warning signs, metal guardrails, and chevron signs for sharp curves and other potential road hazards, as road safety components.”

“Once completed, Bulan-Matnog-Sta. Magdalena-Bulusan Road will serve as a faster alternative route of tourists going to various eco-tourism and beach destinations of the province, all the while showcasing its beautiful scenery,” Bonoan said.
The southern part of Sorsogon is known for numerous attractions including the Bulusan Volcano National Park, “Pink” Subic Beach and Juag Lagoon Marine Sanctuary in Matnog, the white sand beaches of Sta. Magdalena, and World War II Japanese Tunnel in Bulan, among others.
