In celebration of National Heritage Month, the Cebu City Government opened an exhibit at the lobby of the Legislative Building of City Hall.
The exhibit is dubbed “Mga Bahandi sa Sugbo: An Exhibit on Tangible and Intangible Heritage of Cebu.” It will run until May 31, 2024.
Mayor Michael Rama, and Vice Mayor and Cebu City Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission (CHAC) Chairman Raymond Alvin Garcia led the ribbon cutting and opening ceremony.
“It is important for people to look back at history to appreciate what they have today.”
In his speech, Rama said it is important for people to look back at history to appreciate what they have today.
“Whoever you are today is a product of yesterday… Who I am is because of my roots,” the mayor said.
The exhibit features dioramas of iconic heritage structures in Cebu City, such as the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño, Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, Fort San Pedro, Heritage of Cebu Monument, Cebu Provincial Capitol, and Cebu City Hall.
Several paintings depicting the customs, traditions, and craftsmanship of Cebuanos are also on display.
Garcia said he and Rama share the same vision of ensuring that the public, especially the youth, can appreciate Cebu City’s rich heritage.
“We get to know our future by learning from our past.”
“We learn from our past, we get to know our future by learning from our past,” he said.
