HOUSE KICKS OFF NATIONAL ARTS MONTH CELEBRATION

World-class performers showcasing the country’s rich artistic and cultural heritage visited the House of Representatives for the institution’s flag raising ceremony and celebration of the 2024 National Arts Month (NAM).

House Committee on Welfare of Children chairperson and BHW Party-list Representative Angelica Natasha Co, who graced the event as guest speaker, said that Philippine art reflects the country’s glorious past that shaped its national identity.

“Ang sining ay naglalahad ng mga kwento at mensahe, mga karanasan at gintong aral na patuloy nating dapat isabuhay bilang mga Pilipino,” Co said.

“I encourage Filipinos to carry on with the struggle on women’s liberation, work for the emancipation of workers from economic bondage, and to never waiver for the fulfilment of human rights and social justice.”

The lady legislator encouraged Filipinos to carry on with the struggle on women’s liberation, work for the emancipation of workers from economic bondage, and to never waver for the fulfilment of human rights and social justice.

The lawmaker went on to enjoin House secretariat officials, employees, and congressional staff to support the causes of the creative industries, recognizing their contribution to the economy, as well as the country’s prominence on the world stage.

The cultural presentations were made possible in collaboration with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). NCCA Commissioner Arvin Manuel Villalon said this year’s NAM theme is “Ani ng Sining, Bayang Malikhain”.

Villalon explained the theme is centered on how a nation’s artistry is reflected on its creative industries.

He acknowledged the notable efforts of Congress, particularly in passing legislation to enrich and give value to Filipino art and culture.

“Nakikita namin ang ani ng sining sa ating mga mamamayan, kung saan mas pinaiigting ang pagmamahal nila sa ating bayan.”
