The City of Manila, through the Manila Health Department, conducted the free diabetic screening for senior high school students of 25 public schools of the city.
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan and City Health Officer Dr. Arnold Pangan personally visited Eulogio Amang Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST) High School in Sta. Mesa and Pres. Sergio Osmeña High School in Tondo.
Lacuna informed the 971 students of EARIST and Osmeña High School of the benefits of the said screening, especially those who have someone in their family diagnosed with diabetes.
“Ayon po sa datos na nakalap ng ating departamento ay tumataas na po ang bilang ng mga kabataang may diabetes.”
“Ano ba ang kahalagahan nito? Ayon po sa datos na nakalap ng ating departamento ay tumataas na po ang bilang ng mga kabataang may diabetes,” she said during her speech in Osmeña High School.
“Iyong may mga kamag-anak na may diabetes ay may mas malaking tiyansa na baka sila ay may diabetes din. Ngayon palang malalaman na natin,” she added.
Lacuna also thanked the parents and guardians of the students for allowing the free blood sugar screening for the benefit of the children.
“One of the benefits of the early screening is to prevent the complications of diabetes like chronic kidney disease with the need for dialysis.”

A total of 7,418 senior high school students from different public schools in Manila were recorded by Manila Health Department for the said screening.
