The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed three farm-to-market roads (FMR) leading to remote barangays in the towns of Ilog and Cauayan, Negros Occidental.
DPWH Region 6 OIC-Director Sanny Boy Oropel said that the newly-paved two-way roads now offer a more convenient access to mountainous communities in the province, providing better opportunities for transport of local products and other goods and services.

Completed in the town of Ilog are the concrete paving of 756 lineal meters of an existing two-lane road in Barangay Balicotoc and 837 lineal meters in Sitio Lapak, Barangay 2.
In Cauayan, DPWH Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office has also undertaken the concreting of a 462-lineal meter, 2-lane road in Sitio Tagaytay, Barangay Camalanda-an.
As safety features, other road upgrades include grouted riprap, stone masonry, reinforced concrete pipe culvert, and reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings.
“The improved local roads can now cater to big trucks hauling sugarcane as well as other vehicles carrying farm products, enabling a more cost-efficient delivery of goods to nearby markets,” Oropel explained.
The new FMR projects in Negros Occidental were constructed in the allocation amount of P11.8 million, P9.9 million, and P12 million, respectively.
