In the continuous pursuit of excellence in local governance, the provincial government of Davao Oriental once again took part in this year’s Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) assessment.
Governor Niño Sotero Uy, Jr. expressed optimism for the province to receive once again the coveted Seal following a favorable review from the regional assessment team headed by DILG XI Assistant Regional Director Abdullah Matalam.

“I am very inspired, and all of these are a testament to our collective efforts. If only Governor Cora were here, she would have been very happy to hear such words,” Uy said, referring to the late Governor Corazon Malanyaon who passed away on June 28.
“And this is a continuing challenge for all of us to continue the legacy that she had invested for so many years. But of course, what is important is for us to work so that this will be translated into something that would really be useful to uplifting the quality of the lives of our people,” the governor added, stressing that “a measure of every leader of every administration’s success is really seeing the happiness of our people.”
The province is yet to undergo national validation in the coming months. However, Uy expressed his appreciation to the provincial government departments and offices, along with the Department of the Interior and Local Government. He thanked them for their valuable expertise and diligent efforts put in during the assessment.
“We must be thankful to our Lord for bringing us all here together to work as one family of the provincial government. This achievement cannot be attributed to only one person or to one agency, but this is all our effort. This is the result of our convergence in all aspects of governance. We, the officials, are very blessed to have this kind of workforce in the provincial government,” he added,
Under Republic Act No. 11292 or the SGLG Act, the Seal carries on with the “All-in” assessment approach, where an LGU must pass all ten (10) governance areas: Financial Administration and Sustainability; Disaster Preparedness; Social Protection and Sensitivity; Health Compliance and Responsiveness; Sustainable Education; Business Friendliness and Competitiveness; Safety, Peace and Order; Environmental Management; Tourism, Heritage Development, Culture, and Arts; and Youth Development.

Corazon Malanyaon invested this amount in the development of Mainit Hot Spring, which is soon to become one of the province’s newest tourist attractions located in the municipality of Cateel.
Uy is optimistic that Davao Oriental will be awarded the Seal following this year’s assessment, which would result in more development projects for the province.
