HOUSE MEMBERS HOST DIALOGUE WITH INDONESIAN SOLONS

The House of Representatives hosted a dialogue with the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee members of the House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia.


The Philippine contingent consisted of Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Relations and Diplomacy Vice Chairpersons Representatives Lorna Silverio and Janice Salimbangon, Committee on Foreign Affairs Chairperson Representative Ma. Rachel Arenas, Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs Chairperson Representative Ron Salo, Committee on Justice Chairperson Representative Juliet Ferrer, Committee on Justice Vice Chairperson Representative Loreto Acharon, and Special Committee on East ASEAN Growth Area Vice Chairperson Representative Jose Alvarez.

“Bilateral relations significantly contribute to enhancing House Members’ legislative capacities, enabling us to effectively address the challenges faced by the country.”

The veteran legislator is confident that these collaborative efforts could bring about development and prosperity for both countries.

The seasoned lawmaker then reaffirmed Congress’ commitment to strengthen ties with their counterparts from Indonesia and help promote peace in the region.


Arenas recognized how both nations contribute to regional peace and stability, as seen in the peaceful resolution of maritime disputes.

For his part, Salo noted that the Philippines and Indonesia are labor-sending countries.

He also asked help regarding the government’s appeal to reconsider the case of Mary Jane Veloso, who has been in Indonesia’s death row for drug-related charges.

South Kalimantan Senator Gusti Farid Hasan Aman, SE, Akt., MBA, head of the Indonesian delegation, pushed to create an alliance between both countries to reinforce initiatives geared at protecting migrant workers, as well as maintaining peace and stability in the region, among others.

Following the dialogue, the Indonesian parliamentarians were also formally recognized at the Plenary floor.
