The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed the upgrading of a bridge in Barangay Cabatuan, Oquendo District, Calbayog City, Samar.
According to a report submitted by DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar Tabacon to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, the ₱13.8-million Barral II Bridge project involves the construction of a 22.8-meter long, double-lane structure.
“The ₱13.8-million Barral II Bridge project involves the construction of a 22.8-meter long, double-lane structure.”
Previously, motorists utilized the three-barrel reinforced concrete box culvert as the only way to cross Barangay Barral from Barangay Cabatuan, but is susceptible to flooding especially during the rainy season due to low elevation.
The new 10.8-meter wide bridge now benefits daily road users including farmers and traders, mainly in hastening the transport of local goods to commercial hubs in the city.
“Residents have expressed their gratitude for the completion of the bridge which makes travel safer and convenient for both motorists and pedestrians,” Tabacon stressed.
