Rizal 4th District Rep. Fidel Nograles led beneficiaries of the Department of Labor and Employment’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/ Displaced (TUPAD) program in a cleanup of streets and creeks in a bid to emphasize the value of having clean communities.
“Ang paglilinis ng komunidad ay responsibilidad ng lahat ng mamamayang nakatira rito. Walang exempted sa responsibilidad na ito, kahit ang mga halal na opisyal,” Nograles said.
The lawmaker underscored the role that clean surroundings play in maintaining public health.
“Huwag po sana nating iasa lamang ito sa mga naatasang maglinis at sa ating mga TUPAD workers. Kaya nananawagan ako na sa susunod na mga activity ay buong komunidad ang sasali,” he added.

He said that illnesses like dengue and cholera could be mitigated if communities, particularly waterways, were clean and unclogged.
According to the Department of Health (DOH)’s Disease Surveillance Report, there were 220,705 dengue cases recorded from Jan. 1 to Dec. 17, 2022, which is 182 percent higher than the 78,223 cases reported during the same period in 2021.
Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) logged 19,374 cases.
Meanwhile, the country logged 5,860 cholera cases from January 1 to November 26, 2022, which is 282 percent higher than the 1,534 cases recorded during the same period in 2021.
Nograles said illnesses like dengue and cholera could be mitigated if communities, particularly waterways, were clean and unclogged.
“Malaki ang maitutulong ng sama-samang paglilinis, mula sa mga bahay-bahay hanggang sa buong komunidad, para maiwasan ang mga sakit, lalo na ang dengue at cholera na mga bata ang pangunahing biktima,” the solon said.
He also said that having unclogged canals would ensure that the risk of flooding is not exacerbated.
“Sa pamamagitan ng regular regreening program natin, kasama ng madalas na paglilinis sa ating mga kanal at estero para masigurong hindi barado ang mga ito, naililigtas natin ang ating komunidad sa perwisyo at banta ng baha,” Nograles said.
