The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has built a flood control structure along the Malupa-Dian-Aguang River that now protects nearby coconut plantations in Baler, Aurora.
DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller Tolentino, said that the DPWH Aurora District Engineering Office (DEO) completed a 746-meter riverwall along the section of Malupa-Dian-Aguang River in Barangay Reserva in Baler town.
According to District Engineer Roderick Andal, the five-meter high revetment wall was built on steel sheet pile foundation which is supported by a grouted riprap built on the rear side, with an access ramp that can be used by farmers, and a single box culvert.
“The river control structure now helps in keeping the river from overflowing in times of heavy rains and provides better protection to coconut plantations.”

“The structure also ensures safety of residents and lessens possible damage to properties brought about by river flooding.”
“Aside from minimizing agricultural losses, the structure also ensures safety of residents and lessens possible damage to properties brought about by river flooding,” he added.
