Proof, not promises. This is why Manila Mayor Isko Moreno should be given the opportunity to lead the country, according to elected officials who had seen the Aksyon Demokratiko standard bearer up close and had witnessed how he delivered on his pledge to improve the lives of his constituents.
In a video message showed during the Aksyon Demokratiko proclamation rally on Tuesday at the Kartilya ng Katipunan, Senate Pro Tempore Ralph Recto––one of the first political leaders to throw his support behind Moreno’s candidacy––said “naniniwala ako sa pagpili ng ating lider may mas mahalagang batayan; bayan bago barkada or katropa, plataporma, hindi drama, record ng nagawa, at hindi listahan ng pangako.”

Recto stressed that among the current crop of candidates, Moreno stands out because he is running on the basis of his tangible accomplishments in the city of Manila, not on the basis of future plans for the country.
The longtime legislator pointed out “madali pong maglubid ng kwento at magtagpi-tagpi ng pangako, pero iba si Isko; sya ay tumatakbo sa lakas ng mga proyektong nagawa na. Mga pasilidad na hindi drawing pa lang, kundi gumagana na. Mga bagay na nakatayo na, at nagbibigay ginhawa, hindi binabalak pa lang. Ang iba, namimigay pa lang ng promissory note; kay Isko, may resibo na.”

According to Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano, in meetings of top government officials involved in COVID-19 pandemic response efforts, he observed how Moreno understood the issues affecting the people and was amazed at his ability to immediately implement the needed solutions to their problems.
“Dito ko po unang nakita ang galing, yung talino ni Mayor Isko Moreno. Pero mas mahalaga po dun.. dun ko nakita yung sinseridad ni Mayor Isko Moreno. Dun ko nakita yung lalim ng pagmamahal ni Mayor Isko Moreno sa ating bayan. Mas mahalaga po dun, dun ko unang nakita ang malawak na pagunawa ni Mayor Isko sa tunay na sitwasyon ng ating mga kababayan,” explained Cayetano.
“Pinaplano pa lang namin, ginagawa na nya; pinag-usapan namin isang gabi, kinabukasan ginagawa na nya.”
Catyetano pointed out that voters should choose a candidate not on the basis of their plans, but on the basis of their actions.
“Napakadami hong magaling magplano… napakadami ho. Napanood ko ho ang mga debate sa Jessica Soho, sa Boy Abunda… magaganda po lahat ng plano, at naniniwala ako, lahat ng mga kandidato, maganda ang plano para sa ating bayan. Pero kailangan natin ho, hindi lang magaling magplano, kailangan natin yung isang tao na kaya ang trabaho. Napakita ni Mayor Isko Moreno na kaya nya ang trabaho,” added the Taguig mayor.

Deputy Speaker Pablo John Garcia of the 3rd district of Cebu expressed similar sentiments, and said that he believed that Moreno could duplicate his accomplishments in Manila on a national scale.
“Naniniwala ako na ang ginawa ni Isko Moreno dito sa Manila, kaya nyang gawin sa buong Pilipinas. Kasi ginawa na nya dito sa Manila, may pruweba na,” said Garcia, as he narrated how Moreno, without fanfare, extended aid to Cebu residents who had lost their homes in a fire, and immediately flew to the province after the onslaught of Typhoon Odette.
“Kaming mga Bisaya, may kasabihan: dili sulti ang pabuhaton, buhat ang pasultihon. Hindi salita ang pinapagawa, ang gawa ang pinagsasalita.”
