The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has facilitated a better connection between Iloilo City and the Dumagas Ro-Ro Port through the widening of Nabitasan Bridge in Leganes, Iloilo.
According to DPWH Regional Office 6 Director Lea Delfinado’s report to acting Secretary Roger Mercado, the upgrading from two lanes to four lanes doubles the capacity of the 138-meter Nabitasan Bridge.
“The upgrading from two lanes to four lanes doubles the capacity of the 138-meter Nabitasan Bridge.”
Mercado, citing a report from the Western Visayas Regional Office, explained that the project also included concrete pavement, curbs and gutter, slope protection, and reflectorized pavement markings.
The Nabitasan Bridge is part of the Iloilo City-Leganes-Dumangas Coastal Road, which is a busy and usually congested route utilized by truckers and haulers delivering products between market centers in Iloilo City and the ro-ro port in Dumagas.
“This improvement of the Nabitasan Bridge greatly enhances both the transport of goods and access of motorists along Iloilo City and the nearby municipalities of Iloilo, Negros Occidental, and Guimaras,” the public works chief said.
Completed in the amount of P46.05-million, the project was implemented by DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office (DEO) with funding sourced from the Regular Infrastructure Program for fiscal year 2020.
