Manila and Lipa City in Batangas province will enter into a sister city pact in order to expand and strengthen the local government units’ relationship.
A sister city pact or twin town relationship is a form of legal or social agreement between two geographically and politically distinct localities aimed at promoting cultural and commercial ties.
Among the benefits of such a deal is the expansion of business relations and social ties, and the promotion of cultural understanding.
It will also enable the exchange of knowledge and expertise in areas of mutual interest.
Through the pact, an influx of business, tourism and trade activities are expected.

Lipa’s legislative council had adopted a separate resolution authorizing Mayor Eric Africa to enter into a sister city relationship with Manila, through Mayor Isko Moreno.
“The City of Manila has been recognized for implementing innovative, proactive, and effective policies that greatly improved local governance and the delivery of services.”

Domagoso received a copy of the resolution from Africa at the Claro M. Recto Events Center in Lipa recently.
Manila was among the first to send help to Batangas during the Taal Volcano eruption in January 2020.
Manila also offered its facilities to Batangueños who will be infected with COVID-19 and opened vaccination to non-residents.
