The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has constructed a dike in San Juan, La Union that will ensure the safety of residents and their properties from damage brought by typhoons and rapid rise of flood water.
According to a report submitted to Secretary Mark Villar by the La Union 1st District Engineering Office, the 70.8-linear meter concrete dike was constructed with the use of the allocated budget of P4.95 million from the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA) to serve as protection against destruction of houses, livelihood, and possible loss of lives.

The construction of flood mitigation structures aims to mitigate and minimize the effects of flood along low-lying and coastal areas.
“With this dike, residents living near the creek of Barangay Ili Sur in San Juan, La Union will be able to sleep soundly at night knowing that their families and properties are safe from severe damage that can be brought by flash floods,” Villar stressed.
