NEW CAGAYAN ACCESS ROAD TO HELP COCONUT FARMERS

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has assisted the growing coconut industry in Sanchez Mira, Cagayan with the construction of a 123-lineal meter access road.

Secretary Mark Villar said that the DPWH Cagayan 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) implemented the P2-million project, which was funded through the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

“The completed project serves as an access road of Barangays Callugan and Masisit.”

Based on District Engineer Oscar Gumiran’s report, Villar said that the completed project along Manila North Road enhances connectivity in the town of Sanchez Mira by serving as an access road of Barangays Callugan and Masisit.

“DPWH hopes that the provision of the road will bring economic development in the area.”

“DPWH hopes that the provision of the road will bring economic development in the area through employment and business opportunities for the locals,” the public works chief added.

Focused not only on Sanchez Mira’s budding coconut industry but also on the promotion of other agricultural products in the area, the access road now allows for a more efficient delivery of coconuts products and other farm produce to market centers to neighboring cities and towns.

“The project’s completion is much-needed assistance to the locals, some of whom have lost their jobs because of the pandemic and are just trying to find means to support their families,” the public works head concluded.
