The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has constructed a new flood control structure intended to protect residents and their farmlands from river overflow in the Municipality of Aguinaldo, Ifugao.
DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said P19.7 million was allocated under the 2020 General Appropriations Act (GAA) for the construction of the Mapacopaco Flood Control in Barangay Posnaan.
“The river tends to overflow especially during the rainy season.”
“Since the river tends to overflow especially during the rainy season, the flood control structure was built to prevent accumulation of water on the floodplains, protecting lives and properties,” Villar explained.
“The completed protective structure consists of boulders and gabions and has a length of 600 meters.”
According to DPWH Cordillera Administrative Region Director Khadaffy Tanggol, the completed protective structure consists of boulders and gabions and has a length of 600 meters implemented by DPWH Ifugao Second District Engineering Office (DEO).
“The success of DPWH projects would not be possible without our hardworking men in the field who deliver quality projects on time despite the pandemic,” the public works chief concluded.
