The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to deliver a hemodialysis facility to the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) in Quezon City.
Secretary and isolation czar Mark Villar said the modular hospital facility being built at NKTI Compound will enable patients with kidney illness to receive on-schedule hemodialysis procedure.
DPWH Undersecretary and Task Force to Facilitate Augmentation of Local and National Health Facilities Head Emil Sadain and Bureau of Construction (BOC) Director Aristarco Doroy recently inspected the on-going construction of an off-site Hemodialysis Facility with 20-patient treatment room and reported that civil works for this project is on target for completion by end of this month.
“The modular hemo-facility is for COVID-19 patient with compromised kidneys needing to undergo regular lifesaving hemodialysis treatment.”
“The modular hemo-facility as requested by NKTI management was planned as a satellite unit on the hospital compound for support services as required for COVID-19 patient with compromised kidneys needing to undergo regular lifesaving hemodialysis treatment,” Sadain added.
Considered in the construction of the modular hemo-facility by the DPWH Task Force is the ease of public access for patients who may arrive either walking, using mobility equipment, on an ambulance stretcher or patient trolley.
About 60 patients can undergo periodic hemodialysis treatment daily at the facility.
Capable of providing multiple sessions per day to a maximum of three persons per hemo-facility treatment area, about 60 patients can undergo periodic hemodialysis treatment daily at the facility.
Compared to regular modular hospitals built by the DPWH Task Force for COVID-19 treatment, the construction of Hemo-Facility implemented by DPWH Bureau of Construction requires detailed planning for all service delivery methods.
It includes the main entry/reception area, separate waiting area for patient and watcher, treatment areas with standard machine components, staff area, water treatment with related fixtures and fittings and storage area.
The DPWH has also put-up an off-site modular dormitory with 16 air conditioned rooms with toilet and double deck beds and capable of providing temporary shelter for about 32 health workers of NKTI.
