The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of four new healthcare facilities in Capiz, providing the province with additional support in its fight against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Secretary and Isolation Czar Mark Villar, the facilities include an isolation/quarantine facility and off-site dormitory at the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital in Roxas City; an off-site dormitory at Bailan District Hospital in Pontevedra, Capiz; and the Roxas City Covered Gymnasium turned COVID-19 facility.

Villar, citing a report from Regional Office 6 Director Lea Delfinado, said that the 16-room isolation/quarantine facility with air-conditioner, individual comfort rooms and beddings in Roxas City was completed from transformed prefabricated container vans.
The isolation/quarantine facility also includes an air-conditioned male and female nurse quarters with each room having two double-deck beds and a comfort room, utility/electrical room, sanitation area, water tank, generator/distribution transformer, and a septic tank.
The off-site dormitories in Pontevedra, on the other hand, are composed of 16 air-conditioned-rooms with individual comfort rooms and one double-deck bed equipped with necessary amenities like an air-conditioned dining area and living area, laundry area, kitchen, water tank, utility/electrical room, sanitation area, generator, and septic tank.
The existing Roxas City Covered Gym was converted into a 60-room facility.
Meanwhile, the existing Roxas City Covered Gym was converted into a 60-room facility with individual beds in each cubicle; male and female restrooms; two nurse stations; and a disinfecting area.
“The facilities can also function as temporary shelters to be utilized by victims of natural calamities, disasters, and other emergency situations,” the public works chief pointed out.
Delfinado, representing the public works head, led the turn-over of the completed healthcare facilities to Capiz Provincial Governor Esteban Evan Contreras in a ceremony held recently at the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital.
“These facilities will provide a safer space to accommodate COVID-19 patients as they undergo isolation and treatment, as well provide a more comfortable space to health workers performing key roles during this pandemic,” she concluded.
