TF ZERO HUNGER HOLDS CONSULTATIONS – NOGRALES

The Inter-Agency Task Force on Zero Hunger, headed by Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, conducted a series of consultations from November 26 to December 4 with stakeholders in government and the private sector on the National Food Policy which is intended to address the priority concerns of hunger and poverty.

The Task Force was created by virtue of Executive Order No. 101 which was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on January 10, 2020.

“Hunger and poverty elimination are priorities of the Duterte administration. The NFP is another tangible tool we will use to address these twin priorities.”

“We conducted a five-part consultation series involving various agencies and private groups and asked for inputs, comments, and suggestions on the government’s National Food Policy which was launched last October 16,” Nograles said.

The Kasapatan at Ugnayan ng Mamamayan sa Akmang Pagkain At Nutrisyon or KUMAIN Consultation Series is divided into five segments, which were all attended by development partners and international organizations including the World Bank, JICA, World Food Programme, Food, and Agriculture Organization, UNICEF, World Health Organization, and the ECCP. Representatives from the academe, NGOs, CSOs, religious organizations, and LGUs likewise participated.

The Malacañang official stressed that the core aims of the initiative were to objectively address hunger and poverty, improve nutrition among Filipino families, ensure food security and establish a sustainable system of local agriculture.

“We conducted the KUMAIN consultations thoroughly with as many partners as possible because we wanted a comprehensive and doable set of solutions. We also wanted all stakeholders to actively participate in enforcing the NFP based on their own inputs.”
