Rizal 2nd District Rep. Fidel Nograles is hopeful that a project by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) seeking to digitize community-based small businesses will contribute to the success of the “Buy Local, Go Lokal” campaign of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
The DTI, in partnership with the Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation, has recently launched DiskarTech, the Philippines’ first Taglish financial inclusion super app.
“The enforced separation from our loved ones has made many of us crave food and things that remind us of home.”
According to DTI, more than 1.3 million sari-sari stores and market vendors in over 42,000 barangays, and about seven million informal and unregistered home-based micro-businesses stand to benefit from the app.
“Naniniwala tayong malaki ang maiaambag ng DiskarTech sa Buy Local, Go Lokal campaign ng pamahalaan,” Nograles said.
He said that the app would open doors to untapped markets, particularly in rural areas, as well as empower micro-enterprises, small farmers, and fisherfolk.
“Kung sasamahan ng training sa digital marketing at iba pang support services ng pamahalaan, na may commitment naman ang DTI na ibibigay nila sa pamamagitan ng mga Negosyo Centers at field offices sa buong bansa, mabibigyan natin ng pagkakataon ang mga kababayan natin na ma-access ang mas malawak na reach ng social media,” said the lawmaker.
The neophyte solon added that the pandemic has sparked renewed interest in local products that people from the countryside could help fulfill with ample support from government.

“With the government’s help, the gap between supply and demand can be bridged by community-based enterprises and spur our country’s recovery from the pandemic,” Nograles also said.
He added that DiskarTech would allow for direct transactions between enterprises and potential customers, which minimizes the need to enlist predatory middlemen.
