“Just like we promised last week, there would be regular turnovers of completed housing units for Yolanda victims. We have now fully completed the residential projects for the towns of Anilao, Iloilo and Pres. Roxas, Capiz, both in Panay island.”
This was according to Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles who has confirmed that the finished units have been distributed to beneficiaries through the Region 6 office of the National Housing Authority (NHA).
“Our objective is to achieve 100% completion of the remaining housing units this December.”
Nograles added that the timely turnover of the units would benefit residents from similar weather disturbances, especially considering various parts of the Visayas and Luzon are now being affected by Typhoon Tisoy.
“We thank the NHA and the local government units (LGUs) for the turnover of 364 houses in Anilao, Iloilo and 866 more units in Pres. Roxas, Capiz.”
Nograles noted that the beneficiaries would now be able to move into their sturdy, disaster-resilient and permanent residences at the resettlement sites after six uncertain years of waiting for relief and assistance.
“The Duterte administration is always open and ready to hear the pleas of calamity victims. Some issues about facilities and amenities at the relocation sites have come to our attention, so we are fast-tracking the construction of health centers and schools to create truly complete and well-integrated communities,” the Cabinet Secretary explained.
Nograles added that sustainable livelihood programs would also be put in place.
“The Duterte administration is always open and ready to hear the pleas of calamity victims.”
“The government seeks to provide solutions to our kababayans at the relocation sites. Government funds are being allocated and spent, and partnerships are being made with the private sector for the creation of commerce hubs near these areas. We will make the lives of our people easier and the process of settling in faster,” according to the former Davao representative.
Nograles gave credit to government agencies involved in the Inter-Agency Task Force – Yolanda, which he chairs, for the sustained efforts at providing relief and assistance to victims of Typhoon Yolanda.
“Our objective is to complete as many of the remaining housing units this December. President Rodrigo Duterte wants to make good on his commitment to distribute all housing units by 2020. We’re confident we will meet that goal.”
