Reelectionist Senator Cynthia Villar has expressed gratitude for the support of a group of bishops as she seeks a second term in the Senate.
During a recent press conference held at Club Filipino in San Juan City, the Independent Bishops Conference of the Philippines (IBCP), declared its support for Villar and 11 other senatorial candidates.
“I thank the bishops and their flock for their support.”
“This is indeed a big boost to my candidacy. I thank the bishops and their flock for their support. The endorsement further inspires me to devote my life in helping our poor brothers and sisters through legislations, advocacies, projects and programs,” the seasoned legislator said.
The Nacionalista Party senator also stressed the importance of serving the people regardless of religious beliefs and denomination.
“We support President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s leadership.”
In a statement released to media, IBCP, which is composed of 187 bishops of various Christian groups nationwide, said it boldly supports the leadership of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and will corporately work with him with the endorsement of 12 senators to their flock and to the public.
The 12 senators were selected by the bishops according to the following standards:
- They will work closely for our country through leadership and vision of President Duterte
- Their track records prove their capacity to work closely for the transformation of our country
- Their attitude speaks so much of their individuality, enough for us to judge them; and
- We select some for the check and balance of our country’s interests.
Aside from the veteran lawmaker, the IBCP also endorsed fellow Hugpong ng Pagbabago candidates Bong Go, Imee Marcos, Bato dela Rosa, JV Ejercito, Bong Revilla, Nancy Binay, Pia Cayetano, Koko Pimentel and Francis Tolentino.
