Senator Dick Gordon said the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee is mulling the conduct of a probe into the fire that razed a building of the Bureau of Customs in Manila’s Port Area last week and left documents and equipment destroyed.
“We are considering investigating the issue, but we are still studying it and gathering data and evidence. The Blue Ribbon Committee can conduct investigations when warranted even if Congress is on recess,” Gordon said.
“The Blue Ribbon Committee can conduct investigations even if Congress is on recess.”
The chairman of the Committee on Accountability of Public Officers & Investigations or Blue Ribbon explained that the said committee can conduct motu proprio investigations into issues and controversies.
The fire, which lasted for almost 10 hours, started at about 9 p.m. at the part of the building near Gate 3 of the South Harbor last Friday. The blaze gutted the third and fourth floors of the building.
But while, the first and second floors of the building were spared by the flames, documents and equipment sustained water damage.
