Strongly condemning the killing of 63-year-old businessman Jose Luis Yulo and his driver, Allan Santos, by motorcycle-riding gunmen, Senator Dick Gordon has pointed to the need to prevent brazen crimes being perpetrated by riding-in-tandem criminals.
“Criminals on board motorcycles have really become so bold and fearless. They kill with impunity in broad daylight and even along a very busy thoroughfare such as EDSA! It is high time that we take a bite out of these crimes committed with impunity by riding-in-tandems,” the chairman of the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights decried.

Yulo, a kin and namesake of Chamber of Commerce of the Philippine Islands President Jose Luis U. Yulo Jr., and Santos were shot dead along the busiest thoroughfare in Metro Manila at 3 p.m. Sunday, after two motorcycle-riding gunmen pulled beside their van and opened fire along EDSA in Mandaluyong City. A woman, identified as Esmeralda Ignacio, 39, who was also travelling with them in the van was also injured.
Gordon noted that they are but the latest victims in a series of killings over the years where business people, politicians, journalists, activists and ordinary citizens were shot dead.

Based on records from the Philippine National Police, at least four people are killed daily by riding-in-tandem gunmen.
Of the 28,409 “riding-in-tandem” crimes or incidents reported from 2010 to 2017, about 13,062 or 46 percent of which were shooting incidents.
The same records showed that out of over 4,000 motorcycle riding crimes or incidents in 2016, only eight cases (0.18 percent) were solved.
