Above and beyond the years they have lived are the countless contributions they have given to their families and our communities.
This according to Quezon City 2nd district Rep. Winnie Castelo, after the House Committee on Senior Citizens approved additional benefits and privileges for senior citizens at a hearing held yesterday.
Castelo, who filed House Bill 1308 granting additional benefits and privileges for senior citizens, reporter that the committee approved the following incentives: a grant of P25,000 upon reaching the age of 85; a grant of P25,000 upon reaching the age of 90; a grant of P50,000 upon reaching the age of 95; a grant of P100,000 upon reaching the age of 100.
“For many our our senior citizens aged 85 and older, these additional cash grants would mean a lot, especially to those who no longer have any source of livelihood,” said Castelo who is running for Councilor in the 2019 elections, a post he previously held for four terms, from 1995-2001 and from 2004-2010.
“Giving our senior citizens additional benefits and privileges is an expression of the gratitude of our country for their service; this is not merely to assist them, this is more importantly to honor them,” added Castelo.
“Hopefully, this bill becomes a law, sooner rather than later, because many of our senior citizens do not have the luxury of time to wait for our action,” concluded Castelo.”
