Now that Boracay has been closed by the government for tourists—at least temporarily—you might be wondering where to take your long awaited summer vacation before the season is over. Here’s one great option for you and you don’t even have to look further: Romblon.
Perhaps unbeknownst to many, this province also hosts some of the country’s white sand beaches and translucently clear waters. The best thing about them is they are not yet crowded with tourists and business establishments that ruin ecosystems. We recently visited five beaches in Romblon, Romblon where you can freely spend the rest of your summer.
5 LOGBON BEACH
Featuring its small criss-crossing waves, this beach is great for when you really just want to enjoy the sun. It is found in Barangay Logbon, one of the three island villages under the municipality of Romblon. There are inhabitants here who sell local snacks to tourists so you need not worry in case you go hungry. Best if you can pack your own food and drinks though.
4 ALAD BEACH
If you need a place where you can readily upload beach photos to your social media, then this is the best one for you. Alad may be a small island village but it has a strong network signal compared to its neighboring towns. Some of its portions may be rocky but you can walk around to find areas that are much friendlier to your feet.
3 SAN PEDRO BEACH
Also known as Talipasak, named after the barangay where it is located, this place is great for those who want to feel isolated. You know, the kind of people who go to the beach not necessarily to soak in the water, but to enjoy a good book instead or spend quality time with their significant other. San Pedro also sets itself apart as the only beach on this list that offers basic restaurant and accommodation services for travelers.
2 BONBON BEACH
This beach has perhaps one of the most stunning sandbars in the country. On low tides, it can help you cross the adjacent island that makes for a perfect drone shot. Bonbon Beach is fast becoming a popular weekend getaway in Romblon Island because of its accessibility from the town proper. You may easily recognize this place because of the many photos tourists have taken and uploaded online.
1 COBRADOR ISLAND
If you plan on going island hopping, you best not miss the bluest waters this destination has to offer. Cobrador is the farthest among the three island villages featured on this list but a trip to this tropical hideaway is definitely worth it. The area maintains a small solar power plant so you can be assured that the sun always shines the brightest here especially during summer.
SAFETY AND TRAVEL TIPS
If you’re coming from Manila, you can reach Romblon via the Batangas Port. From there, you can take a vessel via 2GO Travel or Montenegro Lines, which have regular trips to Romblon, Romblon. You can also travel by plane via a Cebu Pacific domestic flight to Romblon Airport in Tablas Island.
We suggest that you check the websites of these shipping lines and airlines for updated ticket prices. Once you get to the Port of Romblon, you can arrange a special trip using a boat for your island hopping adventure. Depending on the size of your group, fares usually range between PhP 2,000 to PhP 2,500.
Best to take antiemetics before traveling if you’re someone who struggles with motion sickness. Rough seas can spoil your adventure so be sure to check the weather first before hopping on a boat. Big waves do come right in the middle of a trip but there is no need to panic because your local boatmen know what to do.
