750 CEBU FAMILIES GET FREE HOUSING – NOGRALES

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, in coordination with the National Housing Authority and local government officials, turned over a total of 750 permanent housing units to qualified beneficiaries in Bogo, Cebu last September 27, 2021, as part of the housing commitment of Task Force Yolanda which Nograles heads.

The free housing distribution was done through a virtual ceremony for the St. Vincent Park Homes 1 location in Barangay Banban, Bogo City under the Yolanda Permanent Housing Project of NHA Region 7.

“These houses are a fulfillment of the promise of the Duterte Administration to finish all Yolanda-related commitments before the President’s term ends.”

During the ceremony, Nograles thanked the National Government as well as the various local government units for their coordination in building a total of 6,721 housing units in Central Visayas which were all turned over during his chairmanship of the Inter-agency Task Force for the Unified Implementation and Monitoring of Rehabilitation and Recovery Projects and Programs in Yolanda-affected Areas.

Completed housing units can be found in the following localities: Tabuelan (220 units); Daanbantayan (1,863 units); Bantayan (900 units); Medellin (631 units); Santa Fe, Bantayan Island (1,000 units); Madridejos (750 units); San Remigio (607 units); and Bogo City (750 units).

“These houses are a fulfillment of the promise of the Duterte Administration to finish all Yolanda-related commitments before the President’s term ends,” Nograles stressed.

The Malacañang official, who also heads Task Force Zero Hunger, added that they would also create community farms in the resettlement areas in order to provide livelihood opportunities to beneficiaries.

“The community farm project, in coordinate with Pilipinas Kontra Gutom which is comprised of 80 private sector partners, is in line with our anti-hunger and anti-poverty campaign.”

Nograles praised the NHA leadership under General Manager Marcelino Escalada Jr., Regional Manager Jude Juntilo and officers and staff of NHA Region 7.

The Malacañang official, who also heads Task Force Zero Hunger, added that they would also create community farms in the resettlement areas in order to provide livelihood opportunities to beneficiaries.

“We also thank the Bogo City LGU — Mayor Carlo Jose Martinez, Vice Mayor Maria Cielo Martinez, members of the Sangguniang Panglungsod, and all the active members of the LGU. Without their involvement in this project, we would not have achieved this tremendous result,” the Cab Sec stated.

Mayor Martinez for his part thanked President Duterte, Nograles and the NHA for the free housing, stressing “the free houses are a promise fulfilled and a gift that will last a lifetime, even beyond generations. Lives once damaged can now move on with hope and optimism.”
