50-YEAR OLD BRIDGE IN ABRA TOWN GETS DPWH UPGRADE

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed the retrofitting of Don Mariano Marcos Bridge along Abra-Kalinga Road, enhancing transportation safety and infrastructure resilience in the Municipality of Dolores, Abra.

The project covers the repair and upgrading of the bridge that connects Barangays Bumagcat, Tayum, and Mudiit.

The old bridge requires retrofitting to meet current seismic load requirements of the structure, and conform to the latest standard design guidelines, criteria, and specifications of the Department.

“Strengthening works include the installation of carbon-fiber to strengthen the 50-year-old bridge structure, and improve its earthquake resistance,” said DPWH CAR Director Khadaffy Tanggol in his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan.

“Carbon fiber with its lightweight and durable properties is a cost-effective solution to lower long-term maintenance expenses of this vital bridge.”
