The Negros Occidental Palarong Panlalawigan officially kicked with its opening ceremony at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
The event began with a parade by various athletic delegations all over Negros Occidental, including the Bacolod City Division Athletic Association Division, Bago City Division Athletic Association Division, Cadiz City Division Athletic Association Division, among many others.
Present were Negros Occidental Governor Bong Lacson, Councilors Jason Villarosa and Al Espino, Sectoral Head Carmeli Zayco, Schools Division Superintendent – Negros Occidental Anthony Liobet, along with other LGU officials and schools division superintendents.
“An athlete’s obligation is to help nurture and to always instill sports discipline.”
On behalf of Mayor Albee Benitez, Al Espino delivered the welcome message highlighting the athletes’ obligation to help nurture and to always instill sports discipline and to appreciate the gift of sports.
The councilor also shared the words of Benitez which emphasizes that sports teaches us a character of fair play and to learn to continue one’s goals not just in the field, but also in life.
“The provincial meet is more than just a competition, but a platform for the youth to showcase their talents and skills.”
Meanwhile, Negros Occidental Governor Bong Lacson emphasized in his message that the athletes are the heart of the event and that the provincial meet is more than just a competition, but a platform for the youth to showcase their talents and skills.
The opening ceremony featured the ceremonial releasing of doves, the Torch and Lighting of Urn, the Athletes’ Oath of Amateurism, and the Oath of Officiating Officials.
The ceremony concluded with a playground demonstration performance by the Negros Occidental High School (NOHS).
