New homes, new lives.
This is what awaits close to 200 families in Manila who are set to move into Basecommunity, one of the housing projects completed during the term of Manila mayor and Aksyon Demokratiko presidential candidate Isko Moreno.
In two years as Manila’s chief executive, Moreno has broken ground on six major housing projects. These include (1) Basecommunity, (2) Tondominium 1 and 2, (3) Binondominium, (4) San Lazaro Residences, (5) Pedro Gil Residences, and (6) San Sebastian Residences.
At Manila City Hall’s regular Monday flag-raising activity, Moreno revealed that condominium 1 and condominium 2 of the said projects would be turned over to their beneficiaries in the coming weeks.
Speaking in Filipino, Moreno said the families “will now be able to live in homes that they can call their own.”
“Homes,” he stressed, “that will enable decent, good, and stable lives.”
Basecommunity is an in-city public housing project in the Baseco, Port area with 229 two-story, 42 square-meter housing units. Each townhouse-style unit has two bedrooms, a dining room, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a living room.
Moreno, who grew up in the informal settler communities of Tondo, has frequently reiterated the importance of providing housing to Manila’s homeless communities.

Moreno thanked Manila City Hall employees for working despite the difficulties brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic to help fulfill the dreams and hopes of their constituents.
The city government of Manila, said Moreno, proved that they “can make a difference in the lives of not just one person or one family, but thousands of people.”
“We achieved it and showed that it is possible and that it can be done.”
