Undersecretary Joel Sy Egco, Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) Executive Director, has solicited the help of the media community in Kidapawan City on efforts to hasten investigation into the July 10 murder of local Brigada News FM broadcaster Eduardo “Ed” Dizon.
“We need the support of the Kidapawan City media community to hasten the investigation and subsequent prosecution of the real culprits,” said Sy Egco who was recently in Kidapawan to see the crime scene and visit the wake of Dizon.
At the wake, the communications offical spoke with the radioman’s wife, Madonna, who believes that her husband’s death was work-related.
Unidentified gunmen onboard motorcycles ambushed the 58-year-old Dizon while on his way home from the Brigada station around 10:30 p.m. He was shot five times in the body.
Sy Egco said the city police office is pursuing a “promising lead” on Dizon’s case. He also received updates and a briefing from the Special Investigation Task Group Dizon on the progress of the investigation.
“The police already have persons of interest.”
Sy Egco learned that the police already has “persons of interest” who could have masterminded the murder of the broadcaster.
“We are giving our police enough time to finish the investigation.”
He declined to comment further as the case build-up is in progress. “We are giving our police enough time to finish the investigation,” Sy Egco told reporters.
Lt. Col. Maria Joyce Birrey, city police director, said they have in their possession three closed-circuit television footages that captured the shooting of Dizon, who was driving his white Mitsubishi Mirage sedan at the time of the incident.
Birrey added that a police blotter that Dizon filed with the city police prior to his death could help in the investigation and fast resolution of the case.
